[Look. Promises are important to Varian. His entire slip-slide into villainy was started with a broken promise and he's absolutely not going to start breaking his own. Not ever. ]
Okay it took me a little while to learn the words. Also there are like A LOT of songs out there. Way more than there are in my time period which is kind of depressing if you think about it hard enough. Anyhow! As promised:
[It's been a rough couple days since Ruby's awkward misfire. Her plans to break into Varian's house, tranquilize Ruddiger and destroy his Fluid were thwarted by another misfire and the sudden disappearance of not but two of her best friends. Needless to say despite her best efforts she was feeling a little down in the dumps.
When she gets the text she can't believe it. She didn't think between all the science he'd take the time to do something like this. She's a little touched.
Then she opens and listens to the song and wow that was not at all what she was expecting. Varian COULD sing. Way better then her trying to sing along with a cute song. Jeez if he had of had the chance to meet Weiss.
She's not freaking out as much as the last time they were texting, but her cheeks are around the same colour.
If there's a "read" function on the Fluid it's going to sit there while she figures this out.]
Oh. I just happened to fix my Fluid, what a coincidence. You DID NOT tell me you could sing, what the heck?
Thank you though, A whole lot. I needed a pick me up so this means a lot.
My worlds a little like that too. We have a lot of music but nowhere near the variety that this place has.
[He'd very much disagree with that, Miss Rose. he liked her singing plenty.]
In fairness, I never said that I COULDN'T sing. But thank you, I can take a compliment.
[Oh. But that's... concerning. The rest of the music talk is forgotten in favour of something much more important. Ruby is a well of positivity, so if something's been bothering her... well, it's got to be bad.]
You needed a pick me up? Is everything okay? Is there anything I can do?
[Oh no. She didn't want to worry him or anything. How she's going to play this down?]
Yeah. It's okay. The house is just a little quieter than normal. Two of my teammates ended up... I guess going home? I don't know if that's the right way to refer to that. But they aren't here anymore. So it's kind of adjusting to not getting a snappy Weiss or Blake eye rolls first thing in the morning.
Oh. Man. I'm really sorry to hear that. I know they mean a lot to you, and it can't be easy for them to... leave? Wake up? Whatever it is that happens.
Are you sure? 'Cause I'm not doing anything that can't wait if you need company while you go out and eat food until you pass out.
[Her BFF is a pro singer who probably picks out like every time she messes up. Confidence is way down low.
But she has probably gotten way better because of Weiss, it's a give and take relationship.]
It's confusing. I mean I'm glad they aren't stuck here anymore. I know I'll see them both when I wake up from this and we'll keep going on with our mission back home.
But it's weird knowing I won't see them again until then. ...I guess I'm just starting to get how Weiss must've felt being here without us for so long.
Maybe getting out of the house wouldn't be such a bad idea. Maybe instead of eating we can check out the comic book store? That could be a fun change of pace.
I guess I can understand that. You know they're not facing the dangers here, but also, they're not here. It makes sense that you'd miss them, even if you don't especially want them to suffer this place.
Sure. I still only have the vaguest idea what a comic book actually is, so you're just gonna have to educate me on that one. Go easy on me.
[Plus, it might give her a distraction from all her current troubles.]
Yeah... Basically like that. Just going to be an adjustment trying to help out without the team. It's not the first time but I just have to think to figure out how it's going to work.
Well sir, you are in for a treat today. You like swashbuckling adventure stories, right? They're kind of like that. But shorter or given to you in bite sized format. With a bunch of heroes in silly costumes doing stuff.
Well, I know for a fact that you can handle yourself. I'm sure you'll work something out.
That does, actually, sound like a treat. I DO like swashbuckling adventure stories and I'll admit my time in Deerington so far has been tragically devoid of the fictional sort. Sounds great! I'll be there.
I appreciate that. You know I could probably go through the fluid and find some sassy Weiss lines to put on a sound board. It might have the same effect.
Yeah. It's hard to enjoy a good book when you're constantly living the real deal, isn't it? Well let's fix that.
I guess I have an excuse to get out of pajamas today after all.

Of course this is assuming Zwei didn't actually eat your fluid.

Okay. Good point! And you're welcome.

I'll be okay. It's just kind of weird.
Just keep doing what you're doing. That's great.
